The Inseparable Union
The unique history of how our nation became the light of the world where freedom reigns for all to see is fixed on the precept that all men are created equal. Every human being without any exception is “endowed by their Creator” with the rights of liberty and equality. The origin of our right to be free is bound in God the Creator. It did not come from a government or any other man, but from God Himself. This principle toppled the monarchies where kings and queens ruled. America set a new standard based on this basic theological principle that every man has his origin centered on his almighty, all-powerful, all-knowing and omnipresent Creator, God. The ideals of equality and individual freedoms hang on the foundation that “In beginning God created…” (Genesis 1:1)
Our nation has a long history of being focused on God, the Creator, despite secularists’ efforts to propagate an absence of God and religion in the public arena. These secularists have failed to make the vital connection that the birth of our nation is linked with God who gave man his equality and freedom. This God-given union can never be separated by man. However, if God is absent, the freedoms that He bestowed must go, too. These freedoms we enjoy and engage in only come from our Creator. He has endowed man “with certain unalienable rights” that no man can take away. This sacred union is a gift from God as declared on the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. with this statement on the third panel of the monument, "God, who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?”
Even the conflicted deist and chief author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, understood that man’s right to existence was his simply because he was created by God. The reason why America became the vanguard for liberty and equality is because of the intrinsic bond with God, the Creator, who gave us the gift of life. This life entitles every man to equality and freedom. God cannot be dismissed without the loss of these precious liberties bestowed by the one who created us. Atheists and skeptics need to understand that breaking this bond leads to dire consequences. Without God, there is no freedom -- only bondage.
The unalienable rights gifted by God that we possess according to our Founding Fathers includes a respect for life in which everyone’s safety and welfare is protected no matter a person’s race or ethnic origins. We are endowed the liberty to pursue our individual happiness with our unique talents, gifts, and expressions that produces an environment to be creative, solve problems, and move the culture forward. In America, our individuality is given freedom to be expressed, shared, and developed so that new inventions and technologies are given a place to be birthed. This is the backbone that made America prosperous in the world today.
The Pursuit of Happiness
It is not luck or good fortune but a following of what is proposed in the Genesis account that causes man to prosper. God has commanded man to take control in Genesis 1:26 as it states, “let them have dominion.” The same phrase is repeated in Genesis 1:28 with “fill the earth and subdue it.” Man is to have dominion over, fill, and subdue the earth by using the discipline of research to study the phenomena of this physical world. He is to use his God-given gifts of intelligence and creativity which is what science and technology embraces. Man’s purpose on this earth was designed by God so that man could freely serve and honor Him. For the most part, our Founding Fathers were committed to this biblical principle.

Our Founding Fathers understood that the nation who honors and worships God will be prosperous. There was an emphasis in learning God’s precepts through the holy scriptures and His amazing creation. They endeavored to have formally trained civil religious leaders in their communities. Puritans had a love for learning and understood the cultural mandate that Christians would follow the Genesis command to take dominion and subdue what God gave them in His creation. Harvard University, established in 1636 as the first American institution of higher learning, set out to accomplish this purpose led by the Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony.
At the time of the Revolutionary War, there were nine colleges and seminaries all following similar cultural mandates in their individual protestant denominations. For example, Yale, founded in 1701 in Connecticut, the third oldest higher institution of learning was established for training Congregational ministers. In 1746, the Presbyterians founded Princeton University in New Jersey, the fourth institution of higher learning. There are many other examples of schools all following the cultural mandate in the pursuit of higher education with the emphasis ultimately being on God’s Word. These institutions would train and prepare Presidents and our Founding Fathers. John Adams graduated from Harvard, Thomas Jefferson from William and Mary, and James Madison from Princeton.
The command by God for man to subdue and have dominion of creation in the pursuit of happiness allows man to experience God and His glory. It makes mankind dig deeper, probing the Creator’s workmanship. The Apostle Paul teaches us that we witness God’s invisible attributes in the world around us. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20) “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20) Although man cannot see God, He has certainly manifested himself all over the earth and the cosmos in such a way that we are without excuse. His works throughout the entirety of creation are to make us aware of His honor and glory. Evolution in its purest form is a lie because it deceivably attempts to hijack the glory of God. It proclaims to be scientific, but fails in every way to establish a workable mechanism as to how it arose from the inert materials within.
The majority of the Founding Fathers realized that the “wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) and that the whole creation was subjected to uselessness as stated in Romans 8:20, “For the creation was subjected to futility.” In verse 21 it states, “because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption.” They understood that the whole creation was subject to God’s judgment as it states in verse 22, “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs.” Every man is destined to die physically on earth because of the sin of Adam and, for all those who trust in the second Adam, Jesus Christ, our savior, there will be a resurrection by God to eternal life. In our messiah’s words, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25) The curse of sin incurred is now upon all of creation as we witness disease and death on this earth.
At the heart of this curse is the wearing down of our genetic code. Because of the scientific laws of entropy, things move from order to chaos and that is what is happening with our genetic information. Genetic information must decay over time as it too is subject to God’s judgment. There are nearly 4,000 diseases caused by DNA mutations today. As the verse above states, “the wages of sin is death,” we need to consider copying errors in the genetic code as mutations.
A survey of medical literature suggests that a slow and ever persistent accumulation of mutations (copying mistakes in the DNA genetic code) erodes genetic information which leads to aging, diseases such as cancer, and neurodegeneration. There are nearly 4,000 diseases caused by DNA mutations today.
Mutational rates (the amount of mutations per generation) increase dramatically as parents pass their mutations to their children and in turn, they pass them on to their children. It continues from generation to generation, passing down mutations and making our genetic information weaker and less discernable until we reach extinction. It defies evolution because it clearly does not get any better as time moves forward. The logical conclusion is that all genetic information over time will be lost, bringing individual species to an end. This is what we see today. It demonstrates that there is an uphill battle for man to survive and gives another reason why God commanded man to have dominion over the earth. Its logical conclusion is that man needs to be vigilant to work against the curse of disease and death.
Being obedient to God’s Word, we pursue medical knowledge to avoid disease and extinction of mankind. The reward is great as man is extending his life expectancy. At the turn of the 20th century, the average man or woman lived 50 years. By the century’s end life expectancy was approaching 80 years. This is because of breakthroughs in treating all kinds of diseases with medicine, antibiotics, and vaccinations, advances in sanitation, regulation of food products, and advances in surgical techniques with advanced instrumentation. Let us not become confused and give credit to man like so many secularists do, but let us point to God and honor Him with thanks as he has blessed man in his “pursuit of happiness.”
In God’s Image
The birthing of this nation relied on what the Genesis account taught: that we are created in the image of God. In Genesis 1:26-27, the words “image” and “created” are both repeated three times to emphasize that man is a special creation. Man becomes a reflection of God as he exists on this earth. As Max Lucado states (in lesson 3 of the Unshakable Hope series, September 23-24, 2017 at Oak Hills Church, San Antonio, Texas), “God still creates people in His image to bear His likeness and display glory.”
He goes on to state, “that the inborn image of God can be seen in us.” This truth guarantees our freedoms: we were created in God’s image. What embodies the birthing of our nation is that man is valued by His Creator. Therefore, every human life deserves the utmost respect and dignity.
There is no doubt that man stands above all of creation because it is not what man makes of himself, but what God makes of man. We are told in Genesis 2:7 that God formed man from the lowly dust of the earth and then He breathed life into man. No other creature on earth was created in the image of God or has the spirit of life breathed into them by God like man does. It is easily observed in the uniqueness of mankind despite what evolution falsely teaches. Evolutionists’ efforts are not made in the name of science but are full of speculation which defies God’s image and hides man’s reflection of God’s glory.
The meaning of science has been transformed from a Godly perspective to a Godless agenda. Science is presently following a secular philosophical worldview where the reality of a God is never mentioned. Nietzsche, the famous German philosopher, ranted in his famous poem, “God is Dead.” God’s name is not mentioned in any of his workmanship in the Godless world of secularism. He has been buried
and replaced by naturalism. This brings the wrath of God upon us and, as Christians, we see this as God allowing man to move in his evil ways. It is manifested in anger not only against God but in hatred, violence, and cruelty of mankind.
Be the Light of the World
We need to be the light of the world, stepping up and declaring the righteousness of Christ. The light of Christ is needed in this very darkened world now more than ever before. We need to shine in a world filled with lies whose sole purpose is to hide the glory of God in His amazing creation.
