Say Goodbye to Ida
It was only a short time ago that Ida was being hailed as the eight wonder of the world! [Emphasis added]. Sir David Attenborough, brother of Sir Richard Attenborough of Jurassic Park fame, gushed, “Darwin would have been thrilled” and “This little creature is going to show us our connection with the rest of the mammals.” Sir David, the face and voice of natural history programs for the British Broadcasting Corporation for over 50 years, is best known for writing and presenting the nine Life series in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit of wildlife. During this interview, he went on to say, “Now people can say ‘okay we are primates’ show us the link” and “The link we have said up to now is missing – well it’s no longer missing.”
Why am I not surprised that we are saying goodbye to Ida? The title of my rebuttal article concerning this much heralded discovery of an extinct lemur nicknamed Ida says it all. It was titled The New Missing Link: The Next in a Long Line of Hoaxes and Misrepresentations. So when an article by the Associated Press’s science writer, Malcolm Ritter, on October 21, 2009 ran with the title “Primate Fossil Called Only a Distant Relative,” neither I, nor any other Bible-believing person on planet Earth was really surprised.
The only difference between this failed missing link and all the others is that it only took five months for this piece of propaganda to be debunked. I think we should be thankful for the internet. In more antiquated times, the ability to examine, comment upon, and refute, the work of and conclusions of others might have taken years.
What will become of the book entitled “The Link: Uncovering our Earliest Ancestor?” What will become of all the reports, including the creation of the newly classified genus and species, Darwinius masillae? A genus and species created to describe this alleged lemur-like animal? I say alleged, because as I noted in my earlier article concerning Ida, some very prominent scientists who were also faithful to all things Darwin were far from convinced concerning Ida’s place in the evolutionary lineage of man.
The only thing that this Ida incident really proves is that those who have been deceived into believing in Darwin’s Theory, e.g. that nothing can create something that will in turn create everything (and everyone) else, are invested in a foolish and unscientific proposition. Lemurs have always been lemurs. Ida was just an extinct lemur, nearly identical to modern lemurs.
This is called biological stasis, e.g. when one or many species remain the same genetically with little or no change over long geological periods of time. It is a very common phenomenon in nature. In fact, so common that those dedicated to the evolutionary paradigm must constantly promote every new fossil discovery as evidence that evolution is true and make endless excuses for the fact that the fossil record offers Darwinian Theory little support. Biological stasis is a phenomenon to evolutionists, because it happens so often that it tends to falsify Darwinian Theory and validate the biblical account of special creation, e.g. that every living organism reproduces after its own kind, Gen. 1:11-12, 21, 24-25.
If we look at the relationship between lemurs and monkeys today, we find monkeys hunting lemurs for food. Hardly the type of relationship that would lead to the evolutionary changes that evolutionists proposed, e.g. the prey becomes its own predator, the lamb becomes the lion.
But wait, that’s exactly what we are being told can, and did, happen. That is, if you factor into this scenario the magic ingredient of Darwinian evolution, e.g. eons and eons of time. Given enough time, anything’s possible, right? Over and over again evolution works its own brand of magic and fish become people. Wait a minute that was a comic book called Aquaman, not part of Darwin’s theory.
Don’t expect the same amount of fanfare to accompany this admission that the evolutionists were wrong about Ida. There will be no admission that Ida is really evidence in support of special creation and biblical inerrancy, and against Darwinian evolution. Just remember when people deny the truth concerning their Creator, they will soon find themselves believing lies. One thing we can be confident of, all evidence presented in support of the Theory of Evolution will eventually fall by the wayside, discarded because the real scientific evidence supports special creation as the opening verse of the Bible states, “In the beginning God.”
