Stephen Hawking Meets His Creator

Stephen Hawking Meets his Creator

Hawking-(01/08/1942 – 03/14/2018)

When it comes to scientists, the late Professor Stephen Hawking could very well be regarded as one of the few who obtained “Rock Star” notoriety in our modern society. As observed by Tom DeRosa, president of the Creation Studies Institute,

“Hawking was never considered for the most prestigious Scientific award, the Nobel Prize. Although Hawking had profound ideas - especially regarding black holes and cosmology that attracted much attention, the Nobel Committee looks for objective proof. This is where Hawking failed. He had big ideas, but no hard data to support it.”

However, his field of interests often touched on the philosophic. There are profound questions that mankind has yearned to know the answers to. Hawking devoted much of his studies attempting to answer them.

Stephen HawkinsIn his lecture “The Origin of the Universe” Hawking declares that the “…creation myth …tries to answer the questions we all ask. Why are we here? Where did we come from?” In it, he declares that he adopts what is known as the positivist approach, which proposes that ‘A statement is only meaningful if it is either a necessary truth of logic or can be tested empirically’. Interestingly, he neglects to inform his audience that the thesis of positivism itself is neither a necessary truth of logic nor can it be tested empirically, so it is meaningless by its own criteria.

What Happens After We Die?
There is another great question mankind often asks. What happens after we die? In a 2011 interview with the Guardian, Hawking admitted that death was never far from his mind. He went on to say “I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”

This rather bleak estimation of ultimate reality somehow fails to satisfy the soul. It is as if there is eternity in man that longs to be revealed. Thankfully, there is an authority who knows the answers to these questions and has graciously provided easy access for us to find the truth. According to 2 Peter 1:3 God, as our Creator, has provided a written testimony and account of all things necessary for life and godliness in his Word the Bible.

Although Professor Stephen Hawking is no longer alive on this earth this does not mean that he ceased to exist as he asserted above. That is because God created man in his own image (Genesis 1:27). God is a living spirit (John 4:24, Mark 12:27). He created man as a living spirit (Nephesh chayyāh in the Hebrew). You may have heard the Hebrew word chayyāh in the familiar Israelis toast lechayyim, meaning ‘to life’.

In Luke 16:19-31 Jesus provides a luminous insight into the nature of man’s being and what happens after we leave this earthly domain:

“There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

This is a sobering story because it reveals that immediately after a spirit departs from his earthly body he becomes certainly aware of the transcending reality of the spiritual world.
…we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
1 John 1:9
Therefore, it is safe to say that Stephen Hawking has now undoubtedly changed his opinion on the reality of God. I wonder if he is now echoing the haunting request of the rich man to go back and testify unto those he loved?

The Bible says in 1 John 1:9 that “…we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” In the book of Romans chapter 3 verse 23 reads “… all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” In the original Greek that word “all” means all. That includes everyone; me, you, and yes, even Stephen Hawking. With this truth in mind, I’m sure if he could say one last thing to mankind it would be to reassert John’s declaration in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” John also writes that “…as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12). Therefore, let us not wait until it is too late, on the other side of eternity as it were, to obey the mission Jesus has given to us all in Mark 16:15-16. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

Here at CSI, our mission is to do our utmost to reach a lost and dying world with the truths of God’s creation and to help believers to “…be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” Won’t you prayerfully consider partnering with us in our godly endeavor? When we bring what we can, God does his miraculous work to multiply our efforts (John 14:14-21). Together, with God’s blessing, may we accomplish Isaiah 59:19 “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” Please continue to support CSI in your prayers and with any finances God may place at your discretion.
