MYTH #1 Evolution is Compatible with the Word of God

Exposing The Myths of Evolution

Part I of the series, “Exposing the Great Myths of Evolution”

Is nature and its forces the real cause of the universe, or is it a divine work of God? While most people are brainwashed to believe that natural evolution is an indisputable fact, a significant portion of Americans (in fact, one out of five) disagree that all life evolved over millions and billions of years. Almost all of those who disbelieve evolution are evangelicals who have faith in God’s Word.

The argument is reduced to: whom do you want to believe? Those who wish to follow the Bible’s teachings as coming from an all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present God or those who want to let finite and subject-to-error humans lead them. It is that simple.

We are reminded that man is not just finite but also deceitful and wicked as the prophet Jeremiah states, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Jeremiah pleads with God to forgive Judah’s recklessness because they followed their corrupt ways of worshiping their idols rather than God. Man is in the bondage of sin because he inherited sin from his parents as it states,

“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psalm 51:5)

Of course, we are reminded by the Apostle Paul that we are not righteous: “as it is written ‘None is righteous, no, not one: No one understands: no one seeks for God.’” (Romans 3:10-11)

We understand that we are all in need of a Savior because of our sinful nature and that we are dangerous to ourselves and others around us because Scripture states,

“There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
If the above is true according to God’s Word, how can we trust the science of origins determined by men and women predisposed to be dangerous to themselves and others? How do we disbelieve these scientists’ conclusions even though they have impressive academic credentials from prestigious educational institutions? The question of our origins is foundational to determining our destiny. If you don’t know where you come from, how will you determine where you are going? Paul thoroughly understands this paradigm as he addresses this in the idol of worshiping the creature rather than the Creator. He warns us in the last half of Romans 1 that there are horrific consequences for not taking the Creator at His Word and exchanging it for the great lie as stated in verse 25,

“who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”

Arrogance persists in the scientific arena today as it deals with the origins of the physical and living world where an atheistic evolutionary model pervades. Evolutionists are blinded to the truth that the earth, with its incredible array of living forms, possesses enormous complexity with an intricate design, and fine-tuning that requires careful thought. This clearly points to an outside divine intelligence. Physical laws are remarkable invisible forces that keep things together, avoiding or defying their natural chaotic state. These forces control a variety of functions from the infinitesimal particles like atoms and molecules to the vast massive bodies like stars and galaxies, displaying their own uniqueness that can only come from a sovereign and all-powerful Creator.

Paul summarizes this brilliantly as he states,

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

Their denial of the most obvious suggests that they suppress the truth with their own mythical origins story. Many in the scientific world have been brainwashed with “millions and billions of years of slow change” from higher academic institutions radicalized by an atheistic worldview.

Over the years, secularism has influenced our educational system where God is eliminated from the curriculum. As a result, evolution is dogmatically taught and never questioned. It perpetuates itself with its own conjectured stories without scientific basis which are classified as evolutionary myths. These great myths of evolution need to be exposed in our classrooms and in our public media.

MYTH #1: Evolution is Compatible with the Word of God
The Word of God is the standard by which we evaluate the world around us. John 1:1 states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” When we give man’s finite thoughts precedence over God’s Word, we stray into extremely dangerous territory.

1. The character of God does not support evolution. God is perfect in every way. He is holy, has infinite knowledge and power, and is the Creator of time, space, matter, and energy. Energy is the mysterious force that holds everything together and keeps it moving, even though this energy remains elusive to human understanding.

Why would God use such a deplorable, irrational despicable random chance process, accompanied by billions and millions of years of death and destruction in a dreadful Darwinian struggle of the survival of the fittest that would leave countless numbers of unfit? This process is contrary to God’s character, who created everything with excellence as recorded in the Scripture. He said it was “very good” in His final observation made on the sixth day of Creation. (Genesis 1:31) To assume that God used evolution would contradict God’s character.

2. The Genesis Account is God’s Word.
God’s Word is permanent and will never leave us. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35) God’s Word is our “rock” because it never changes, as demonstrated in God’s character. In the Creation account, God spoke everything into existence as evidenced by the phrase “God said” which is repeated ten times. He created everything out of nothing–that could only come from God almighty. The Apostle John was led by the Holy Spirit to focus on the Word of God by beginning his Gospel with the “Word” as God stated, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He illustrated this more eloquently by describing that the Word (God) would become the Son of God, made of the flesh of man who is our Creator and Savior, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

If God’s Word is true, Genesis 1 is an accurate account of how the universe and the earth with all life would come into existence. The first book describes the order of Creation in six literal days of work and the seventh as a day of rest as an example for us to follow the Sabbath as stated in Exodus 20:1.  It is also a sign between God and Israel forever as stated in Exodus 31:17, “It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’” (Exodus 31:17)

Some misinterpret 2 Peter 3:8 where it is stated, “With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” This does not mean that a day equals a thousand years but in context the next verse gives the intent of why a thousand years was used as stated,

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” It represents that God is not slow, but patient to enact his perfect plan for us so that everyone has an opportunity to repent. God is outside of time, but we live in time and need this to function. In this case, a thousand years means a long period of time, and not a literal one-thousand-year time period.

Genesis carefully explains that all living things were created following their kind limited to what the seed (DNA) determines. The phrase after his/its/their kind is repeated ten times in Genesis 1, and numerous times after that in the Old Testament. There is no room for Darwinian evolution because of this. This biblical phrase strongly supports the creation model and opposes the evolutionary tree of life. There is no room for the amoeba to become you and I in the Genesis 1 account.

3. The Gospel is rooted in the Creation Account.
One of the most distinctive doctrines of Christianity is that the natural man is sinful and needs a savior, Jesus Christ. The creation account in Genesis 1 and 2 describes that man was blessed by God by being created in His image and would not be subject to disease and death because everything in God’s Creation was “very good” as stated in Genesis 1:31. We also witness that sin enters the world through Adam in Genesis 3, which brings death and destruction not just to mankind but also to the whole Creation.

“We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” (Romans 8:18-23) God’s judgment for Adam’s sin affected the whole of Creation which is the entire Cosmos.

It is because of Adam’s sin in Genesis that there is bondage, decay, and death as it says, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12) The equation is simply Sin = Death. Another way of looking at this is that the first Adam brought death, and the second Adam brought the resurrection of life through Jesus as revealed in 1 Cor.15:21 “For since by man came death, by Man also came to the resurrection of the dead.” It is the hope of every Christian that Christ defeated death so that we can have eternal life.

The idea of death exists because it is judgment for the sin of man, which explains why bad things happen to us today. Evolutionists have no idea why death exists except in their belief that death allows evolution to occur. Without death to billions, how can living things evolve and crawl up the chain of life? It was the late Carl Sagan who attempted to make sense of this contradiction by stating, “The secrets of evolution are death and time—the deaths of enormous numbers of lifeforms that were imperfectly adapted to the environment; and time for a long succession of small mutations.”

Those who believe that God’s Word and evolution are compatible directly contradict the meaning of death and the Gospel. If death is the result of sin, how can it be used for evolution to move upward when everything is in “bondage to decay” as Paul reminds us in Romans 8:21.

It is not just man that suffers from the curse but the whole creation as it is stated, “We know the whole creation has been groaning as in pains of childbirth right up to the present time.”  Darwinian Evolution uses death as nature’s savior; there is no evolution without death. Through our faith in Christ, we acknowledge that humanity deserves death due to their wickedness but has been saved because of God’s grace.
Our Creator is also our Savior, Jesus Christ, who defeated death and freed mankind from bondage through His death and resurrection.

In the Gospel of John, when Lazarus is raised from the dead (John 11:1-43), our Lord addresses that sickness and death are defeated by our Savior who is glorified. “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4) The heart of the Gospel is that we deserve death, but we have eternal life not through what we have done, but what our Messiah and Savior did for us. The purpose of the Gospel is to give us eternal hope where there is no suffering, disease, or death contrary to the hopelessness and aimlessness represented in the evolutionary model that is dogmatically taught in our classrooms. Evolution’s trademark is disease, destruction, and lots of death over long periods of time with gradual unobservable change, which is totally contrary to the Gospel, God’s character, and His Word.

Darwin’s theory of evolution was introduced to the world in 1859 and slowly became the only prominent worldwide theory regarding the origins of life. The Pew Research Center reports in a web article entitled “The Evolution of Pew Research Center’s Survey Questions About the Origins and Development of Life on Earth” published February 6, 2019, by the that evolution is acceptable in many homes, and many fall for great lie evolution. They reported that when they changed the question to include “God or a higher power” involved in the origins of life, there was a dramatic drop in the Creationist response from 31% to 18%.

The indoctrination of evolution in our schools has grown from 2007 to 2019. There has been a progressive increase as reported by high school biology teachers from 51% to 67%, emphasizing evolution as settled science. This was reported by a collaborated study between Plutzer and the National Center for Science Education (NCSE), a secular organization that opposes religious views being taught in classrooms and promotes evolutionary education. They applauded that the Creation model’s influence amongst biology teachers decreased significantly. It is no wonder our society is drifting from God and His Word as Darwinian Evolution has penetrated young minds and hearts from generation to generation.

The Word of God is dependable from the very beginning to the very end. Unfortunately, the dogmatic teaching of Darwinian evolution keeps spreading like malignant cancer without mercy, pulling many believers away from the truth which God wants to reveal to us. So many Christians are deceived by this false teaching, so Creation Studies Institute has decided to expose these fallacies with a program titled “Exposing the Great Myths of Evolution.” This article will be the first in a series of eight exposing these myths so that fellow Christians can be trained to articulate their faith logically so that they may boldly share the hope of Christ with others.

How many Christians are aware that Genesis is foundational to their faith? Why are so many people accepting evolution as an alternative to their origins and are blinded to how it contradicts God’s Word. We cannot compromise the power of the Bible from beginning to the end and how it has changed the world. We need more than ever to pierce the darkness with the hope that only God’s Word can give with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to be vigilant in training-up families, church leaders, teachers, and the next generation.
