Broad is the Way…

At this present time, Americans are being inundated with what can easily be characterized as “the new world order.” When you trace progressivism back to its political beginnings, you will find that it became popular at the turn of the 20th century. Many of our political leaders were true believers in this, not so new, new-age political movement.

American progressivism is really just the last in a long line of reform movements dating back to before the Civil War. There have been many attempts to improve society in general with an eye towards improving the lot of the poor and underprivileged. While some reform movements were successful in liberating people from abject poverty and oppression such as the abolition of slavery, the temperance movement, woman’s suffrage and the exploitation of children in the labor force, others began to replace the church and our Judeo-Christian heritage as the arbiter of what is and is not socially acceptable.

The curbing of the excesses of capitalism with antitrust legislation along with other successes in the 20th century progressive movement led to a shift that has today become a secular version of morality. It is not based upon the revealed Word of God, but rather a pseudo-spiritual version of the Ten Commandments. Rather than taking their instruction concerning morality from the Bible, these secular progressives turn to humanistic philosophy where “man is the measure of all things” and what is deemed “politically correct” (PC) passes for what is considered acceptable. Failure to agree with this new code of conduct will lead to public shaming, ridicule and a form of social shunning usually reserved for toxic spiritual groups and religious cults.

Recently, the progressive mainstream media has been obsessed with forcing conservatives to worship at the altar of the Politically Correct.  Most recently, this was seen when Republican candidate for President, Dr. Ben Carson, was asked if he would support a Muslim for the office of the presidency. As is typical of “gotcha” politics, the media chose to edit Dr. Carson’s answer. The audience would not have heard Dr. Carson say that he had no problem with a Muslim in the White House provided they swore allegiance to the Constitution over the Islamic doctrine that Sharia law is the supreme law of the land taking precedence over any other legal system.

Just how far will a progressive go in order to oppose Dr. Carson’s freedom to state his opinion? I listened to one well-known progressive say that Dr. Carson was not an expert in Islamic matters; therefore, he could not have an opinion on this matter. Such nonsense is typical of those who would stifle the free speech of those they disagree with. We see this type of McCarthyism being used by the PC police with regard to race relations, abortion, and a host of other topics that have been deemed sacrosanct by the keepers of what is deemed politically correct.

We often hear that all religions lead to God. This new-age mantra became very popular in the 1960’s with the rise in popularity of the Eastern religions. This was made popular by George Harrison and the Beatles. The Hippie sub-culture was particularly taken with the tenants of Hinduism and Buddhism and many disillusioned youth became devotees of several popular gurus and not a few cult leaders who mixed traditional Eastern religion with Christianity. This was easy to do since orthodox Hindu teaching is that Christ was just another manifestation of a spiritual leader who had attained Krishna consciousness.

The Messiah warned His disciples to “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because  narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it, Matt. 7:13-14. The living Word of God was explaining to God's ancient covenant people that religion was leading them astray. Their own Bible teachers, the Scribes and the Pharisees, had misunderstood the purpose of the Law of Moses. Their error caused them to become self-righteous and it had blinded them to their need for the Savior. By the time the Messiah appeared, the majority of the children of Israel had rejected the truth and believed a lie. In fact, the Truth was in their midst, and they could not recognize Him.

Today, this same truth applies. The world is filled with false teachings about what is right and what is wrong. Nothing has changed with regard to warning of the Law of the Prophets. Isaiah warned that religious teachings based on the “precepts of men” would end up leading people astray.

13 Therefore the Lord said:
“Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths
And honor Me with their lips,
But have removed their hearts far from Me,
And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
14 Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvelous work
Among this people,
A marvelous work and a wonder;
For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
And the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidden,” Is. 29:13-14.

Today, we find this same prophecy being fulfilled and your brothers and sisters at the Creation Studies Institute want you to be prepared. Forewarned is forearmed. We are pleased to offer to you a great resource, World Religions and Cults by Bodie Hodge and Roger Patterson, editors. This is Volume 1 in a 3 volume series that offers the most comprehensive and up-to-date information about what constitutes “the broad way that leads to destruction.”

He noted that the finches that inhabited the Galapagos Islands had slightly different beaks. He surmised that they evolved these different beaks based upon the particular food source that was prevalent in their particular habitat within the Galapagos Islands. The bait and switch was to use the minor changes that were examples of adaptation and switch them over to be examples of molecules-to-men evolution.

We have met the enemy, and they are us!
The three techniques consistently employed by evolutionary propagandists are brainwashing, censorship and deception. What the disciples of Darwin will not tell you is that the beaks of these finches would rapidly change when environmental conditions changed. [Peter Grant and Rosemary Grant, Evolution of Character Displacement in Darwins’ Finches, Science 313:224–226.]  Moreover, they use this bait and switch deception all the time. Darwin’s finches have been, and will always be, finches.

Now we find these iconic finches are under attack. What could possibly be happening when these finches, according to the evolutionary timeline, have survived for 3.2 million years (+/- 0.2).  Evolutionary scientists tell us that things will change or die. Death, decay and extinction are hallmarks of evolutionary theory. What was the vector that brought these harbingers of death to the Galapagos Islands? Did a violent storm carry some previously unknown pathogen to the shores of the Galapagos? Did a visiting ship accidently offload a species that might disrupt or adversely affect the ecosystem, thereby decimating the indigenous population of finches? Well, according to researchers, it’s the latter. They claim that the deadly fly was introduced to the Galápagos Islands on ships from mainland Ecuador during the 1990s. While the adult flies are harmless, larvae deposited into finch nests kill baby finches with a mortality rate of 100%.

You can read all about this villain in this latest horror story of evolutionary biology gone awry. In a May 5, 2014 article by James Foley, entitled, Darwin's Finches, Threatened by Blood-Sucking Maggots, Get a Helping Hand,  we read about these parasitic flies, officially known as Philornis downsi, and how they infested the nests of all land birds on the Galapagos Islands.

A cautionary tale of Darwinian meddling
There is another example of evolutionary biology gone wrong. This time it is not an accidental transport of a pathogen; it was foisted on an unsuspecting environment by the best and the brightest of Darwin’s devotees. Someone (or some group of biologists) thought it would be a great idea to introduce a fierce predator that dominates its surroundings, the Nile perch, into Africa’s largest lake (by area) and the largest tropical lake in the world, Lake Victoria. These perch feed on fish (including its own species), crustaceans, and insects; the juveniles also feed on zooplankton. According to Wikipedia, Nile perch were introduced into Lake Victoria (and other lakes) in the 1950’s. The consequences of this were horrific and far-reaching. The perch adversely affected the local population in a variety of ways. These included the import of weapons and ammunition in cargo planes from Europe that then export Nile perch, exacerbating conflict and misery in the surrounding regions for millions of Africans.

Just how bad was this ecological experiment gone awry? A once vibrant and diverse fresh water ecosystem was ruined. Today the only species of fish that is alive and well in Lake Victoria are…you guessed it, the Nile perch. Therefore, what lessons can we take from this cautionary tale? Perhaps it would be better to stay out of the business of playing God. After all, that is exactly what these evolutionary scientists were doing. They foolishly tinkered with God’s design, attempting to improve things for those who are considered less advantaged, if not entirely less evolved, and the results were devastating.

Darwin to the rescue
What are these evolutionists prepared to do with regard to those bloodsucking maggots? Can you hear the faint sound of galloping horses in the distance? It’s Darwin to the rescue. The cure for what ails the Galapagos bird population is going to be the introduction of the insecticide, permethrin, and these evolutionary scientists insist it is safe for birds. They note it is the same ingredient we use on our children to rid them of head lice. Therefore, it must be safe for the flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands. Well that’s their story and, for now, they’re sticking to it. At least until something else goes wrong.

So what lessons can be learned about Darwin’s theory with regard to human intervention. Sometimes man can come up with a way to help stave off a local extinction event. It would be catastrophic if all the birds on the Galapagos Islands were to die. However, would that end the existence of finches? No, it would not. Would the death of every other species of bird in that group of Islands mean the end of all birds everywhere? No, that would not be the case. Will these self-appointed guardians of nature’s domain continue to play God? Their own rejection of the Creator makes that a foregone conclusion.

In any case, fear not, God is not mocked. These atheistic evolutionary scientists will continue to “profess themselves to be wise,” while, in reality, “they become more and more foolish,” Rom. 1:22. As children of God, we have nothing to fear. Our heavenly Father always leads us in triumph in Christ, II Cor. 2:14. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:19.
