Creator and Savior

Thanks to our news media, we are reminded every day that there is something wrong with mankind. Malcolm Muggeridge (1903- 1990), a famous English author, journalist, and media personality, understands the nature of man to oppose his corruptness without God. This is confirmed by just taking a glimpse at the current news. In most cases, the way the news is reported comes from the pens and minds of men and women who are not free of the bondage of sin. They reflect on their own bias and selfish needs, avoiding the One who will set them free. This is part of the confusion and chaos in the world that eventually leads to death. As unbelievers, they rebuke God's law that gives us order and peace. Similarly, United States Supreme Court decisions have desecrated the sanctity of life and marriage. The sanctity of the womb is attacked every day and innocent lives are lost. Paul refers to murder in Romans 1:29 as he describes the depraved condition of man.

Hitler SaluteIn 2019, according to the Guttmacher Institute, nine states now allow full-term abortions, including New York, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Colorado, Vermont, Alaska, and Washington D.C. It is estimated that over 60 million abortions have been committed since Roe versus Wade in 1973. Just like the Holocaust, where 11 million-plus innocent people lost their lives, a dictator harmed others with an evil regime and took control of the right to life that only comes from the Creator. Hitler and those who perform abortions wrongly determine who should be selected to live and who should die. Those who declare war on the womb state, "It's my body and I can do whatever I want with human life," and also defy God, the divine author of all life. This is in stark contrast to the beauty stated in Colossians 1:16, "For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”

Man's identity in Christ as created in His image, male and female, is continuously attacked. Many approve, support, and delight in their decadence against God's created gender order of male and female. They set their own standards and incorrectly use God's Word for their benefit. Their lust for each other has no end because God turned them over to their own passions. "Therefore, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves." (Romans 1:24) Our Creator from the beginning of time created man in His image and gave him true identity by creating male and female. (Genesis 1:27) Our 23rd chromosome confirms this and identifies our sex as male or female. It is God's designed order. Who are we to change it?

Our schools and almost every other public venue denounce our Creator and Savior and claim we are products of evolutionary processes. They also proclaim they can save themselves. The origins of the universe and the beginning of life itself is reported in a distorted and deranged way, calling it a cosmic accident. These lies penetrate young minds and take hostage innocent lives. They walk in pride as fools and are irrational because they have failed to see the most obvious attributes of God manifested throughout Creation. "For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened." So they move forward in their unrighteousness and spread the lies of evolution and other evil ideas to convince others to follow. And the question is asked, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalms 11:3)

Instead of praising God with their mouths, they use His name in vain. Language, a gift from God to mankind that no other creature on earth possesses is used to defile their Creator. They abuse it with their vileness, which is accepted by so many. It infiltrates almost every corner and crevice of our culture. The apostle Paul identifies this kind of depravity of man as stated below,

They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. (Romans 1: 29-31 ESV)

The apostle Paul establishes man's naturally depraved state and need of the hope of salvation through Christ. He expounds upon man's deplorable condition so that one recognizes that he cannot save himself. We need a great deal of help. We cannot save ourselves. We need Christ to save us. Our Father in heaven sacrificed his only Son to pay the penalty for our sins. We have been saved totally by His grace and mercy. It is the work of God and not the work of man:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2: 8-10 KJV)

Jesus Lamb of GodThis gospel of grace existed before the foundations of the world. "According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love." (Ephesians 1:4 KJV)

He is our Creator who put everything into existence to share His glory and love. He became our Savior out of love and created us so we can have a relationship with Him forever. God becoming flesh is the mysteries of all mysteries. Why would God humble himself in human form on this planet? He did this out of love for us so that we can identify and experience Him in this Creation. The human world is made to be touched, seen, felt, and fully enjoyed so that we can fully experience God. We are also composed of reason and a mind because He made us in His image. Our relationship with God is both physical and spiritual and will be made completely at the end of time when there will be a new heaven and new earth, all in the presence of Christ. "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." (Revelation 21:1)

On this earth, the faith that Paul addresses does not exist in the physical realm. The words faith and hope are bound together and only become visible when they are witnessed in our actions. Hope and faith are human qualities that distinguish us from any other creatures on earth. Without exception, every person who has life has faith. Faith is eloquently defined in Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV), "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

There is no way you can ever prove the nonexistence of God because God is absolute and universal. Atheists put their trust in a system based on the material world which typically results in the popular idea of evolution. It is based on a foundational faith in man's ideas rather than following God's thoughts and His Word. Their hope is founded upon their vain conviction of how physical and living systems naturally began. The idea that we are finite beings who continue to change our hypotheses and theories and are blinded by our wickedness never crosses their minds. As it is stated in Romans 1, they are without excuse to see the truth. God manifests Himself in His Creation as he manifests Himself in His Word. Creation speaks His poetry of magnificent design and His Word the Law, all incorporated in the love and mercy He has for us. We live by faith in Him as it states, "For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’" (Romans 1:17 ESV)

Why does God allow human suffering? This question is asked by many, especially those who are in pain emotionally and physically. As we discussed above, man will be subject to the wrath of God because of the sin of man. We are destined to physical death because of the first Adam's sin as it states in Genesis 3:19, "By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." (ESV) Our hope is in Jesus Christ, who is the second Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45) and has defeated death and given us the free gift of eternal life. We will be subject to the curse and the suffering that follows while we are here on earth knowing that this is  temporary compared to the eternal hope we have in Christ.

Jesus is our hopeOne of the most critical accounts in understanding why God allows suffering is the testimony of the prophet Job. God allowed a man who was "blameless and upright" and "feared God and shunned evil" to suffer much (Job 1:1). This godly man is subject to the evil one’s way in Job 1 and 2. Satan caused him to lose all his earthly possessions, orchestrated a horrific accident that would take the lives of his 10 children, and inflicted physical pain with some form of illness that covered his body with boils and caused him great suffering. His physical appearance was so altered that when his friends approached him, he was unrecognizable. Regardless, they truly cared for him and were so saddened as Job's "grief was very great" that they sat with him in silence for seven days and nights (Job 2:13).

Although Job's state brought him down to depths that no human being wants to experience, he never defied His Creator and Savior. Although his concerned friends attempted to give him advice, it was not helpful. It was God who appeared to him in chapter 38 and ended this discussion: Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

"Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me." (Job 38:1-3 NKJV)

God points Job's attention to the magnificence and grandeur of His Creation, asking him 77 different science questions. He begins with the earth and its composition, asking the question, "who was here to witness this unique act of Creation?" The answer is God and His angels. This scene is described below:

"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Job 38:4-7)

Only God can give a testimony of the age of the earth through His Word, which speaks in the confines of thousands of years. Contrary to what secularists with their fake science speculate (4.6 billion years), defying God and His Word. The same evolutionary story of long ages is speculated with dinosaurs and man. Dinosaurs are often used in the evolutionary timeline going back to 66 million years ago. Many theories surround the sudden extinction of these creature's, including a world-wide flood during Noah's time using the young-earth model of thousands, not millions, of years.

According to the evolutionary scenario, humans came onto the scene much later on the hypothetical timeline dating 300 thousand years ago. It suggests a tremendous cosmic gap between man and dinosaur. Such a long age worldview contradicts God's Word which clearly speaks of both man and dinosaur coexisting together. The world never sees this picture, but the Bible gives an excellent description of the Behemoth as a giant dinosaur, classified as a sauropod, existing with the prophet Job. "Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox." (Job 40:15)

Dinosaurs in the BibleThe description of the Behemoth that follows speaks of a massive animal that "moves his tail like a cedar tree," “strength is in his hips," and "his power is in his stomach muscles" (Job 40:16-17). The remains of the Brachiosaurus were found as early as the year 1903 by Elmer S. Riggs in western Colorado. It is estimated to have been 82 feet long and weighing 62 tons and could have been agile because large animal bones are designed to be light. Job 40:18 describes the design that is easily observed in the sauropod as it states, "His bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs like bars of iron."

The Brachiosaurus is an excellent example of a sauropod that was depicted in the movie Jurassic Park in 1993. The Brachiosaurus is seen standing up on its hind legs making impressive display of how large he was possibly demonstrates what Job experienced. God wanted to show Job and the world that He is an all-powerful Creator, and we need to always focus on Him even through the worst of times. So God chose the Behemoth and made it stand on its rear legs to illustrate its power, muscular stomach, thighs, and hips as His majestic masterpiece for all to marvel and give God His deserving glory. It was a scene to behold. The Behemoth is genuinely a historical phenomenon that is affirmed in Job 40:19, "He is the first of the ways of God; Only He who made him can bring near His sword."

Although Job was a righteous man, he was also a sinner and fell short of God's glory. We can't save ourselves, and we are reminded of this in Job's testimony. God presented himself as the all-powerful, ever-present, and all-knowing Creator who put everything in motion so that all can see Him and give Him thanks and honor.

The message is clear. Our Creator is there for us and will never let us go. Although suffering often feels like it will never go away, Jesus can and will save us from it. We know this in the Good News of the Gospel. Job is brought to humility and the full understanding that we need to put our trust in God's infinite plan. There will be suffering during our time on earth, but our Creator, who gave us our very existence, will also be our Savior for eternity. Our faith is alive because God created us to have the capacity to relate to Him through His Creation.
