The Mark of the Beast
This phrase is a hot button topic of discussion, and no doubt has been since the Apostle John wrote this in the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ circa 90 AD. Here are the Scriptures found in the last book of the Bible.
…so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name, Rev. 13:1.
And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name,” Rev. 14:11.
The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image, Rev. 16:2
But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, Rev. 19:20.
I am not going to speculate as to the identity of the Antichrist. Suffice it to say that there is a spirit of antichrist that has existed throughout human history. That is why the Apostle John warned us, even now, many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour, I John 2:18.
In the history of Israel, many antichrists have arisen. Pharaoh of Exodus fame was an antichrist. The many leaders of nations that God raised up to chasten His people Israel were antichrists. Among them was Antiochus IV Epiphanes. He was the Hellenistic king of the Seleucid Empire and the villain who was eventually defeated by the Maccabees of Hanukkah, the Feast of the Dedication, John 10:22, fame. Serious Bible students understand that the book of Daniel and the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ should be studied together, but that is a rather lengthy, in-depth endeavor.
I am certain that the Roman general Titus, the prince who was prophesied to come in Dan. 9:26, would have been seen as an antichrist. He comes “after” the Messiah is cut off. He then comes and destroys the city and the sanctuary in 70 A.D. This remarkable prophecy places the time of the appearance of the Messiah before Titus and the Roman soldiers destroy Jerusalem. God calls this Roman General a “prince,” because God knew he would later become Caesar. Hitler, Stalin, and so many others could easily have been considered the antichrist by those who suffered under their regimes.
This brings us to “the” Antichrist. All that came before were mere types of this Beast. There is so much speculation about the Mark of the Beast that believers can easily be caught up in the hype. I have watched many believers on social media fall into the trap of believing the Mark of the Beast is the Covid-19 coronavirus vaccine. Will this virus damn you for eternity? Can it really change your DNA? Will it make you into an automaton, subject to every whim of the Antichrist? So much speculation has triggered a lot of ungodly fear within the Kingdom.
That is why we must be Bereans concerning this subject. We must look to the Word of God for answers about the Mark of the Beast. Let’s look at the verses posted above. It is evident from these verses that the Mark of the Beast reveals certain truths that are helpful in understanding the significance of making a decision to take it.
You cannot buy or sell without it, Rev. 13:1.
Taking this mark damns you, Rev. 14:11.
Those who take it are severely physically afflicted, Rev. 16:2.
The Beast and the False Prophet are thrown alive into the Lake of Fire, Rev. 19:20.
Now let’s look closely at what is happening in these verses. There will be tribulation saints who are saved during this timeframe. Most of them will be martyred for their faith, Rev. 13:7, while refusing to take the mark of the Beast, Rev. 14:1-5. Unlike those who take the Mark of the Beast, they will be protected from the judgments falling on those who took the mark.
It is clear from these verses, that those taking the Mark of the Beast can no longer be saved. Those who are saved are sealed by the Holy Spirit of the living God, and according to Scripture, will be supernaturally empowered to stand firm in their faith.
Taking the Mark involves a cognitive decision to reject the true Messiah, and to receive the Antichrist at their savior. Only then can they continue to live. I will not get into a lengthy discussion about who can or cannot receive this mark. Just know that no one can become un-born again. I would suggest that those who are concerned about whether or not they will be able to stand in the face of ultimate persecution that they read, Foxe's Book of Martyrs. You will be encouraged that God’s word is true when He promises this to His children.
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved, Matt. 10:18-22.
The Mark of the Beast is not for believers, it’s for those who have rejected the holy One of Israel, Messiah Jesus. Like the three Hebrew children in the book of Daniel, they did not know whether or not the Lord would deliver them from the fiery furnace. What they did know is that they would not bow down. That is the legacy of the children of God when faced with certain death.
There are 366 “fear nots” in the KJV Bible. One for each year and an extra one for leap year. At CSI, we are not going to succumb to worldly carnal fears, we have been given the perfect peace of God by the Prince of peace. We have nothing to fear from the Antichrist and his minions.
One last thing. We are told that those who reject Christ will receive a mark in their right hand or in their forehead. We know that our hands represent what we do, our works. The mark in the head represents the stinking thinking of a mind devoid of God, a mind trusting in a false savior. Do not be deceived into living in fear. This vaccine is NOT the mark of the Beast. The mark of the Beast is evidence that you are trusting in a false messiah.
At CSI, we want you to know the science of vaccines are basically good. We cannot tell you whether you should take this vaccine or not. What we can say is that vaccines have eradicated polio, small pox, whooping cough, rabies and many other deadly diseases. We should be praying that this vaccine too will be a success.
Please continue to support this ministry. We covet your prayers and we are looking forward to partnering with you to continue to “Reach the world with the truths of Creation and the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
