Archaeopteryx and Modern Birds
Have we been “programmed” to accept that the fossil bird Archaeopteryx and the living Avocet bird are separated by long ages of evolution. Would you be surprised to learn that they are both found in the Cretaceous rock layer along with dinosaurs?
Although we are led to believe that there is unequivocal fossil evidence to demonstrate supposed “evolution” of birds, the reality is far different.
The fossil record does not agree with the premise of evolution – that slowly accumulating chance mutations over long periods of time result in the increase of complexity and of new information and new kids of organisms; the Molecules to Man evolution often depicted in government school textbooks. For example, many fossils could fit into any and all time periods. These fossils have been labeled as “Living Fossils” – organisms that have remained virtually unchanged through the supposed long ages of time and defying evolution of any kind what-so-ever. As you might imagine, these living fossils are somewhat problematic for evolution and counter intuitive to their premise. However, not to be daunted by the factual evidence to the contrary, the faithful evolution believer quickly explains that these organisms prove evolution because they have not changed at all. Go figure? A good example of a living fossil would be clams, horseshoe crabs, crocodiles, wasps, ants, the nautilus, and numerous others.
The Coelacanth pictured here is a species of fish that was once thought to have become extinct in the Late Cretaceous Period, around 66 million years ago. However, they were rediscovered in 1938 alive off the coast of South Africa! Evolution believers then conveniently reclassified them as Living Fossils.
There is another type of problematic fossil that cannot be made to fit the evolutionary timeline with any plausible argument at all because they are found in layers totally out of kilter with evolution. Since such fossils would invalidate their hypothesis, evolution believers have deemed these fossils to be anomalous. For examples; the London Hammer found in rock dated by a team of archaeologists to the Ordovician – more than 400 million years ago! The Antikythera mechanism (between 150 and 205 BC), labeled by experts as the first mechanical computer, forced scientists to reconsider the sophistication of the ancient Greeks. The Baghdad battery – a 2000-year-old battery. A fossil of a human handprint found in limestone estimated to be more than 110 million years old. Also, a fossilized human finger also over 110 million years old. The apparent discovery of a human footprint that possibly sported a sandal which dates to more than 300 million years ago!
The bronze bell shown here was found encased in a large piece of coal. Standard dating of the bituminous coal seam from which it was taken dates it from the Carboniferous Period, approximately 300 million years old. Certainly, no human artifact could reside in such “ancient” strata. This “fossil” is anomalous indeed.
The boy who found it in the 1940s discovered it while shoveling coal into his home’s furnace. One chunk, about 15 inches by 20 inches in area and 6 inches thick, was too large, and when he broke it a metal object protruded. Diligence completely removed all coal from the bell, which had a two-inch stem between the bell and a “human-like” figure on top–a man in a kneeling position, with arms and wings. Records show the coal had been excavated from a shallow mine near his home in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
Anomalies and living fossils are not a problem for the Biblical account of history. The hydraulic sorting action of a catastrophic flood would predict that any sort of living creature might be found alive today or in any sort of sediment.
In Dr. Carl Werner’s book and DVD, Living Fossils, he reveals that fossil researchers have found many modern bird remains with dinosaurs, yet museums do not display these fossils, thus keeping this information from the public. By keeping this information hidden, children and adults are indoctrinated with the false idea that animals changed over time (since the time of the dinosaurs), and that evolution is true.
Dr Werner discovered that many types of birds have been found with dinosaurs including ducks, loons, flamingos, albatross, owls, penguins, sandpipers, parrots, cormorants, avocets, as well as extinct birds such as Archaeopteryx and Hesperornis. While these extinct birds did have teeth, many other modern types of birds without teeth have been found. By leaving this fact out, the museum display misleads the public. Quotes from Dr. Werner:
“Museums do not show you these modern bird fossils nor do they put modern birds fleshed out with feathers in their dinosaur dioramas. This is wrong. Essentially, every time you see a T. rex or a Triceratops in a museum display, you should also see ducks, loons, flamingos or some of these other modern birds that have been found in the same rock layers as these dinosaurs, but this is not the case. I have never seen a duck with a dinosaur at a natural history museum, have you? An owl? A parrot?”
“Not only do they not display birds, but the prestigious American Museum of Natural History suggests the opposite in their dinosaur-to-bird placard. This display is extremely misleading and again does not mention modern birds with dinosaurs.”
“I interviewed a scientist at the Museum of Paleontology at Berkeley who discussed a parrot fossil they had found in Cretaceous layers (‘dinosaur rock’). But the parrot fossil was not on display in the museum.” – Dr. Werner
“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:” 2 Peter 3:3-5
As creationists repeatedly encounter the refusal of our secular evolutionists even to consider the evidence for special creation and against evolution, we are tempted to apply to them such pejoratives as “intolerance,” “narrow-mindedness,” “bigotry,” and the like. But the pungent phrase of the apostle Peter is probably the most appropriate of all—”they willingly are ignorant.” By Henry M. Morris, PH.D.
