The Flood Catastrophe that Changed the World
One of the most profound events ever to take place changed the face of the earth forever. It produced the mountains that we observe reaching far into the sky today – some measuring over 27,000 feet tall with our champion Mount Everest at 29,092 feet above sea level.
This event carved tremendous caverns 36,201 feet below sea level in the Marianna Trench. In the Grand Canyon, this event had such great energy that it blew away 900 cubic miles of dirt and rock never to be seen again. In fact, it created this hole known as the Grand Canyon, averaging one mile deep and 277 miles long with a varying width from 4 to 18 miles. This massive hole is identified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. It is a truly amazing sight to behold with its array of reflected colors dancing off its many different layered rocks. The rock strata plummet downward into a seemingly endless abyss attracting people from all over the world to wonder about the composition of the earth itself.
The Grand Canyon displays evidence of a catastrophic flood that caused erosion on a massive scale. Unfortunately, our culture is told a different story through various avenues including National Park literature. This literature teaches the evolutionary explanation that the Colorado River was the sole eroding agent that moved 900 cubic miles of dirt and rock over millions of years. For over 150 years, evolutionists have proposed several different theories about the Colorado River that snakes its way through this canyon.
Most geologists agree that the creation of this immense canyon would have required such a huge amount of energy that the Colorado River alone could not have achieved this feat. Today, these geologists speculate that a series of geologically ordered and distinct events occurred in the past. They assume that the Colorado River and its tributaries would have followed these previous catastrophes. One of the dynamic forces proposed is the uplifting of the Colorado Plateau through plate tectonics that would cause the Colorado Plateau to rise several thousand feet in which the Grand Canyon is located.
There is still much discussion amongst geologists concerning the timing and specific geological processes that formed the Grand Canyon. However, a paramount problem still exists. What caused the erosion material – 900 cubic miles of dirt and rock – to vanish without a trace?
If the Colorado River has flowed for 6 million years as evolutionary geologists insist, these catastrophic events should have produced deltas at the end of this river. However, the amount of material from such a process is negligible at best. Evidence that the Grand Canyon was created by a series of catastrophes followed by the formation of the Colorado River is missing in action.
The more logical approach to this problem uses computer modeling to determine the amount of force needed to erode the 900+ cubic miles of dirt and rock required to create such a large cavity in the earth. It has been determined with that type of modeling that it would take a huge body of water measuring 3,000 cubic miles stored and ready to be released all at once in order to carve out the Grand Canyon. This amount of water is equivalent to three times the volume of Lake Michigan. Evolutionary scientists speculate that a huge amount of water was trapped on top of the Colorado Plateau and held in place by naturally forming dams. Theory suggests that when enough water was built up on the plateau, the dam was breached and this tremendous force was unleashed with so much energy that it could have easily carved the Grand Canyon and eroded the 900 cubic miles of dirt and rock. Still, the force needed to leave this great natural wonder in its wake was so colossal that this event could only be produced by using a catastrophic worldwide flood model.
The worldwide flood not only changed the entire surface of the earth by carving deep trenches, canyons, and huge mountain ranges, it was also a disastrous event for all living things. It took all forms of biological life hostage resulting in a huge amount of death.
There is further evidence of fast-flowing water currents as seven-foot thick fossil beds have now been discovered. This particular fossil bed thickens to about 40 feet as it runs the 277 miles of the canyon and continues an additional 180 miles beyond into Las Vegas, Nevada. This layer contains tens of millions of nautiloid fossils with an average of one fossil per four square meters and with nearly one in seven fossils standing vertically! Nautiloids are extinct sea animals which have squid-like features enclosed in chambered shells. Amazingly, so many nautiloids were buried horizontally in one of the zones of the rock that it had to signify a catastrophic kill zone. It is as if the creatures were killed so quickly by such powerful water currents that the fossil pattern they left could only be generated by a worldwide flood.
Geologists agree that the large rock layers were deposited in water-related conditions. It also follows that millions of fossils were formed as a result of these water deposits. It would also make sense that these flood deposits would happen quickly, but most evolutionists reject this idea. Still, there is evidence everywhere that the geological forces to carve the canyon took place in a short period of time. When we observe billions of nautiloids in all different sizes, (from small, young nautiloids to their bigger, older relatives) in a 7-foot horizontal zone in the Redwall Limestone measuring 10,500 square miles, we have substantial evidence that this was formed as a result of a speedy death.
A sedimentary geologist and creationist, Steve Austin, has been researching this area since the late 1980’s. This enormous nautiloid deposition provides indisputable proof of the significant rapid formation of this important layer of the canyon. He also established that a powerfully swift current of water was moving in a specific direction noting, “The long, slender shells of numerous nautiloids, in Nautiloid Canyon, have a dominant orientation, indicating that current was operating as ‘fine grained’ lime mud accumulated.” It is logical to conclude that the majestic Grand Canyon is a relic of a catastrophe that had such powerful force that it left its footprint all over our planet.
Fossil Graveyards
As seen in the fast currents and rapid burial of Grand Canyon nautiloid fossils, there are tremendous fossil graveyards consisting of billions of plants and animals on every continent throughout the world. They all give the same testimony of a worldwide cataclysmic flood. One of the many sites that support this is the coal basin Montceau-les-Mines in France. In this basin, there are various kinds of animals buried together, including an array of marine creatures buried with amphibians, insects, spiders, reptiles and many others. What is so amazing about this fossil site is that geologists actually found numerous insect nymph forms with developing wings. This demonstrates an exceptional preservation of animals including the development of a number of other juvenile insects. Astonishingly, these fossils reveal a moment in the past much like a “still frame” in a movie or a photograph of an ongoing process ending in the demise of these tiny creatures. This site not only signifies a massive burial, but a quick one as well. What we really observe in this fossil evidence is a worldwide catastrophic event leaving its evidence embedded in the layers of the geologic column.
Another great example of mass burial process is the Green River Formation in parts of Western Colorado, Eastern Utah and Southwestern Wyoming. This is another site that demonstrates a high-energy quick burial. This site yields millions of exquisite fossils of spectacular fish, plant, crayfish, insects, bat, bird, turtle, crocodiles and even horse with other types of fossils all superbly persevered in the rock layers. Some specimens have been fossilized with a perch-like fish caught in the act of eating another similar fish, giving us additional evidence of an instant burial. Under normal circumstances, dead fish float and are eaten by other creatures, but to find millions of these fish frozen in the rock layers so well-preserved forces one to conclude that they were the result of a catastrophic event.
Oceans and the Word of God
Over most of the earth, there is a vast blanket of sedimentary rock layers covering 75% of all the continental area surfaces. For the most part, the fossil record consists of 95% marine creatures that come from the sedimentary rocks. This demonstrates that, at some time in the past, oceans covered the surface of the earth. This is evidence of the direct effect of a worldwide flood, yet evolutionists reject this model. Instead, they believe that the earth was filled with a body of water comprising an ancient ocean. According to the National Earth Science Teachers Association website, the Window to the Universe theory on the origin of the earth’s water is as follows:
Once the Earth began to cool, water vapor, one of the volatiles, began to condense and form an ocean. According to the Goldilocks principal, Earth is at just the right distance from the sun for the temperature of the surface to be appropriate for the formation of liquid water.
This theory is written in many of our students’ textbooks and is taught in their classrooms. One is forced to question: how do we know that special ingredients, including an enormous amount of water vapor, existed when the Earth began to cool? The concept that this vast amount of water on our planet was the result of vapor condensation is, at best, extremely doubtful, even if we factor in the hundreds of millions of years of evolutionary time. It is a forced assumption that is driven by evolutionists’ own arrogance and need to rule out the divine Creator. The above statement is not based on any scientific principle, but by an evolutionist hyper-naturalistic and materialistic worldview. Evolutionary theory is a belief system that refuses to evaluate any evidence contrary to its molecules-to-men scenario. When one is confronted with the unbelievable amount of water vapor needed to fill 71% of earth from its crust up, one realizes that it would take 332.5 million cubic miles of liquid H2O. That is an astonishing volume of water. Vapor condensation cannot account for the massive volume of water present on our planet, no matter how much extra time is factored in.
